Islamabad: As Breast Cancer Awareness Month begins, the Women Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) of the National Assembly has reaffirmed its dedication to increasing awareness, encouraging prevention and early detection, and advocating for accessible and quality healthcare for women across Pakistan.
According to the National Assembly of Pakistan, Dr. Shahida Rehmani, the Secretary of the WPC, emphasized the importance of awareness, timely screening, early diagnosis, and appropriate treatment in saving lives. She stated that every woman should have access to accurate information, timely medical consultation, screening facilities, and affordable treatment, irrespective of her location or socioeconomic status.
The WPC sees this month as a chance to not only raise awareness but also to inspire women to prioritize their health. Dr. Rehmani urged women to be attentive to bodily changes and seek medical advice promptly. She highlighted the need for families and communities to create an environment where women can openly discuss their health and seek care without fear or stigma.
The Caucus recognizes that addressing breast cancer requires a comprehensive approach, including awareness, prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and psychosocial support. Dr. Rehmani called for stronger coordination among Parliament, government institutions, healthcare providers, civil society, and development partners to effectively combat breast cancer.
As parliamentarians, the Caucus feels a responsibility to ensure women’s health remains a priority on the policy and legislative agenda. Dr. Rehmani assured that the WPC will continue to support initiatives that improve women’s access to healthcare, promote evidence-based policies, and enhance health outcomes, especially for women in underserved and remote communities.
In a call to action, Dr. Rehmani encouraged women, families, healthcare professionals, and communities across Pakistan to join the efforts during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
