Foreign Minister Dar Advocates for Enhanced Financing in Nuclear Energy Sector

Islamabad, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has made a strong plea to multilateral development institutions for enhanced financing support for nuclear energy projects. This call was made during a video message from the sidelines of the Nuclear Energy Summit in Brussels, highlighting the critical need for investment in this sector to aid developing countries in establishing nuclear power plants.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Dar emphasized the role of nuclear energy as a pivotal and safe energy source, second only to hydroelectric power in terms of safety. He pointed out Pakistan’s existing nuclear energy capacity, which exceeds 3,500 megawatts. Dar also mentioned the ongoing construction of the Chashma-5 nuclear power plant, a project undertaken in collaboration with China, as a testament to Pakistan’s commitment to expanding its nuclear energy footprint.

The Foreign Minister’s appeal reflects a broader consensus among heads of delegations at the summit, advocating for international financial institutions to prioritize nuclear energy projects. This approach is seen as a strategic move to ensure energy security and sustainability in developing nations.
