Federal Minister for Law and Human Rights Engages with EU Delegation on Human Rights and GSP+


Islamabad: Federal Minister for Law and Human Rights, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, met with a delegation of ambassadors and senior diplomats from the European Union and European countries, led by Raimundas Karoblis, the Ambassador of the European Union to Pakistan. The meeting focused on human rights, Pakistan-EU relations, and the Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+).



According to Press Information Department, the delegation included ambassadors from Sweden, Norway, France, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, and representatives from Ireland and Canada. The discussions involved a detailed exchange on the GSP+ framework, human rights, and the rule of law, highlighting mutual cooperation and the importance of continued engagement to strengthen the partnership.



The delegation acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in advancing human rights, citing the establishment of the National Commission for Minorities and the enactment of the Protection of Journalists and Media Professionals Act. Discussions also touched upon the death penalty moratorium and broader human rights commitments.



Senator Tarar informed the delegation about the government’s ongoing reforms to enhance fundamental rights protection, access to justice, and rule of law. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to human rights while ensuring counter-terrorism measures align with constitutional and legal standards.



The Minister assured continued cooperation with the European Union on shared interests, including human rights and legal reforms. The meeting concluded with both sides expressing a commitment to deepen cooperation and maintain regular dialogue to advance common objectives.
