Islamabad: More than half of Pakistanis believe their social status has improved compared to their parents’ generation, according to a recent survey conducted by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan. The survey found that 53% of respondents perceive an upward shift in their family’s social standing, while 31% feel they are worse off.
According to Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, the survey questioned a nationally representative sample of adult Pakistanis across the country about their perceived social status relative to their parents. Of the respondents, 13% reported that their social status remained the same, 1% were uncertain, and 4% chose not to respond. The findings suggest a trend of social advancement, particularly among those with higher education levels.
The survey, conducted from March 26 to April 1, 2026, involved 761 participants from both urban and rural areas across all four provinces of Pakistan. The study utilized telephonic surveys (CATI) and carries an error margin of approximately ± 2-3 percent at the 95% confidence level. Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, affiliated with Gallup International, released the findings as part of its ongoing research into social trends.
