Islamabad: A recent analysis of 1,742 opinion columns and editorials in 12 Urdu and English newspapers has revealed that the dominant themes for July 2026 were the Economy, Foreign Relations, and Politics. According to the Monthly Newspaper Content Analysis Research Study conducted by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, under the supervision of Executive Director Bilal I. Gilani, these topics formed the core of discourse in the print media landscape.
The study, which constitutes the 75th edition of the series, is an effort by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan’s Media Research Division to empirically understand the perspectives of opinion leaders on national and international issues. The analysis included a diverse range of newspapers, such as Jang, Express, and The News, among others. The findings indicate that the Economy claimed 16% of the editorial space, Foreign Relations 15%, and Politics 13%, followed by Social issues at 11%.
The study further dissected the Economy theme, revealing that Fiscal Policy was the most discussed subcategory at 55%, with AI Investment and Budget Politics each accounting for 13%. The word-cloud insights highlighted the prominence of terms like “Pakistan” and “economic,” signifying the emphasis on economic growth, finance, and policy discussions in the national media.
The analysis also noted differences between English and Urdu newspapers. English-language publications focused more on the Economy, allocating 13% of their content to it, compared to 4% in Urdu-language papers. Similarly, Foreign Relations and Politics received more attention in English newspapers than in their Urdu counterparts.
This comprehensive study was released by the Gilani Research Foundation and carried out by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The ongoing research aims to facilitate a constructive conversation among media practitioners to enhance the quality and outreach of media content in Pakistan.
