Islamabad: In a significant diplomatic engagement, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, hosted Dr. Gordan Grlic Radman, Croatia’s Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, marking the first official visit of a Croatian foreign minister to Pakistan. The visit, held on July 9, 2026, aimed to deepen bilateral relations and expand cooperation across various sectors.
According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during their meeting in Islamabad, both leaders conducted comprehensive talks, covering a broad spectrum of bilateral ties and regional and international issues. They emphasized their commitment to enhancing cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, development, climate change, and tourism. Additionally, they agreed on the importance of facilitating visa procedures, including the signing of a visa abolition agreement for diplomatic passport holders and opening a Croatian visa processing facility in Pakistan.
The discussions also focused on economic relations, with both sides recognizing the potential for increased trade and investment. They explored opportunities in information technology, agriculture, defense, and maritime cooperation. The leaders also addressed global issues, such as the situation in Afghanistan, the conflict in Ukraine, and the Occupied Palestinian Territory, reaffirming their commitment to multilateralism and peaceful resolution of disputes.
The two nations agreed to expedite agreements to strengthen diplomatic training and maintain regular high-level contacts. They also expressed mutual support at international platforms like the United Nations, highlighting the importance of parliamentary exchanges and cooperation in culture, education, and research.
Croatia acknowledged Pakistan’s interest in the European Union’s GSP+ scheme, while Pakistan emphasized its socioeconomic benefits. Both sides appreciated ongoing engagements on migration and labor mobility, recognizing the potential for legal pathways for Pakistani skilled workers to Croatia.
The visit concluded with both ministers expressing hope for continued dialogue and mutual prosperity, underscoring the shared resolve to promote peace, stability, and prosperity on the global stage.
