Islamabad, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar is set to participate in the World Climate Action Summit as part of the UN Climate Change Conference COP28, scheduled to begin on the 1st of next month in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This announcement was made by Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch during her weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Thursday.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the delegation accompanying the Prime Minister will include the Foreign Minister and the Minister for Climate Change. During the Summit, the Prime Minister will engage in high-level events and bilateral meetings with counterparts from participating countries. He will present Pakistan’s perspective on climate change and advocate for the implementation of common climate commitments, including mitigation, adaptation, climate finance, and the establishment of a loss and damage fund.
At COP28, Pakistan aims to collaborate with other developing countries to operationalize the loss and damage fund for climate-vulnerable nations. Additionally, Pakistan will reiterate its call for developed countries to fulfill their commitment to mobilize one hundred billion dollars per year as climate finance for developing countries.
Furthermore, Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani will attend the International Conference on Global Alliance to Counter Migrant Smuggling in Belgium on the 28th of this month.
