Sacramento: The California State Senate has unanimously passed a resolution that celebrates the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and the United States and acknowledges the significant contributions of the Pakistani-American diaspora to the economic, cultural, and social landscape of California. This resolution, presented by Senator Melissa Hurtado, marks a pivotal moment in recognizing the impact of Pakistani-Americans across various fields in the state.

According to Press Information Department, the resolution was facilitated by the Council of Pakistan, led by Dr. Imran Sharief. Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, expressed gratitude to Senator Hurtado for her leadership and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening people-to-people ties and enhancing bilateral relations with the United States.

The California State Assembly also made strides in promoting relations with Pakistan, with Assemblymember Matt Haney recognizing the contributions of Pakistani-American businesses and investors. The Assembly acknowledged Ambassador Sheikh’s efforts in strengthening ties between the two nations.

Ambassador Sheikh’s visit to California coincided with the resolution’s passage, providing an opportunity for him to engage with state lawmakers. During a meeting with Senator Eloise Gomez, discussions centered on expanding trade and economic cooperation between Pakistan and the United States. Senator Gomez praised Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace, and Ambassador Sheikh extended an invitation to her to visit Pakistan.

Additionally, Ambassador Sheikh hosted a working lunch with Assemblymember Matt Haney and Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva, focusing on enhancing bilateral collaboration in key sectors. Invitations were extended to both legislators to visit Pakistan to further these efforts.
