ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has called on young economists to transcend traditional bureaucratic practices and actively engage in shaping Pakistan’s future through innovation, stability, and effective policymaking.
According to Radio Pakistan, Iqbal addressed a ceremony at the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics in Islamabad, highlighting the role of the Ministry of Planning and Development as a pivotal entity in the government’s efforts to map the country’s future and guide national progress. He congratulated newly trained economists on completing their orientation program, urging them to view their roles as part of a mission of nation-building rather than mere government employment.
Iqbal emphasized that economic planning must align with political realities, stating that robust economic policies require political and institutional support to succeed. He underscored the increasing significance of technological innovation and artificial intelligence, stressing the need for Pakistan to incorporate modern trends into its economic framework. The minister also pointed out the necessity for stability, intellectual freedom, and new ideas to achieve sustainable development.
He expressed optimism that the young economists would effectively contribute to addressing national challenges and advancing Pakistan’s development objectives.
