Islamabad: A delegation from the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) visited the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) on Monday, calling for enhanced implementation of women’s rights at the grassroots level. The delegation, welcomed by Ms. Noureen Bano Lehri, Interim Chairperson of NCSW, was briefed on the Commission’s current initiatives, including the NCSW Strategic Plan for 2026-2029 and the National Gender Parity Dashboard.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, Secretary WPC Dr. Shahida Rehmani commended NCSW’s efforts towards gender equality and legislation for women, emphasizing the need for laws and policies to effectively reach underserved women. She condemned the recent murder of Ms. Hina Javed, an employee of the National Information Technology Board, stressing that the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus is committed to ensuring a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident.

The WPC members highlighted the importance of collaboration between NCSW and the National Disaster Management Authority to mitigate the impacts of climate change on women. They advocated for comprehensive gender-disaggregated data to inform legislation and called for measures to improve rural women’s access to education, healthcare, and justice. The delegation also suggested integrating awareness of women’s rights into school curricula and marriage documentation processes.

Ms. Noureen Bano Lehri expressed appreciation for the WPC’s involvement, underscoring the need for institutional coordination and reliable data to achieve meaningful progress. The visiting delegation included MNAs Ms. Sofia Saeed Shah, Ms. Huma Akhtar Chughtai, and several others, who reiterated that legislative efforts must be supported by awareness, data, and effective implementation to truly benefit women and girls.
