World Water Day Highlights Urgent Need for Glacier Preservation

Islamabad: World Water Day is being observed today to spotlight the critical importance of sustainable water management and conservation. This year’s theme, “Glacier Preservation,” underscores the urgency of the issue as glaciers, vital to ecosystems, face rapid melting that threatens both animal and plant life.

In parallel to World Water Day, the annual Earth Hour is set to take place in Pakistan tonight, aligning with global efforts. Individuals, communities, and businesses are encouraged to participate by turning off non-essential electric lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 PM, as a symbolic gesture to support environmental protection.

Efforts to preserve glaciers have become a focal point as their decline poses significant risks to water resources, biodiversity, and climate stability. The observance of World Water Day seeks to mobilize action and foster a deeper understanding of these pressing environmental challenges.

Earth Hour’s global initiative aims to unite people across the world in a shared commitment to sustainability. By taking this small collective action, participants contribute to a broader dialogue on environmental responsibility and the urgent need for change.
