Jammu, The United Peace Alliance, a coalition of various political and social organizations in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, has voiced strong opposition to what it describes as the exploitation of the region’s natural resources by India. The group has expressed concerns over the lack of basic facilities for local residents and warned of potential agitation.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the United Peace Alliance raised these issues during a significant meeting held in Jammu. Participants discussed the severe power outages in the region, attributing them to the Indian government’s decision to transfer control of local power projects to Indian companies, as directed by the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs.
The meeting also highlighted the issuance of arbitrary orders by Indian officers, which, the participants, serve to disempower the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The group warned that a protest movement might be initiated against what they view as the looting of Kashmiri resources by the Modi regime.
Additionally, the United Peace Alliance called for a transparent investigation into the recent deaths of three civilians in the custody of the Indian army in the Bafliaz area of Poonch district.
The meeting saw the participation of various prominent figures, including United Peace Alliance Chairman Mir Shahid Saleem, and other notable members like ID Khajuria, Manish Sahni, Dr. Muhammad Hussain, Sunny Kant Cheb, Muhammad Maqbool, Inder Dev Singh, Mahfouz Chaudhary, Santosh Kashmiri, Masoor Magre, Farooq Ahmed, and Muhammad Haqnawaz.
This development indicates escalating tensions and dissatisfaction with the central government’s policies in Jammu and Kashmir, potentially leading to increased local unrest and protests.
