Taliban takeover a ‘body blow’ to Indian interests in Afghanistan, Analysts

Islamabad, August 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):Analysts say Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan has caused a major diplomatic setback for India. Deputy Director of the Asia programme at the US-based Wilson Centre, Michael Kugelman, said India has gone from being Kabul’s closest regional partner to one of the region’s most disadvantaged players in Afghanistan.

Echoing similar sentiments, Happymon Jacob from New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University, said India seems to be out of the game in Afghanistan. Talking to Al Jazeera, he said at present India’s diplomacy is almost non-existent in Afghanistan and its stakes have dramatically decreased.
