Islamabad: The Standing Committee of the National Assembly on Privatization convened at Parliament House in Islamabad to deliberate on the privatization plans for key national institutions. The meeting, chaired by Mr. Muhammad Farooq Sattar, focused on the progress of the privatization of Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) and Distribution Companies (DISCOs), stressing the importance of transparency and employee rights.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the committee reviewed previous recommendations and sought updates from various ministries and organizations. It emphasized the need for accurate and timely implementation of its directives. A detailed briefing was provided on ZTBL, which was approved for privatization by the Federal Cabinet in August 2024 and classified as a Major Privatization by the Privatisation Commission Board. The committee also discussed the ongoing process concerning DISCOs, highlighting the necessity for adherence to established rules and procedures.
The meeting was attended by several honorable members, including Mr. Anwar-ul-Haq Chaudhary, Ms. Saba Sadiq, Ms. Samar Haroon Bilour, Ms. Sehar Kamran, and Mr. Arshad Abdullah Vohra. Key officials from the Ministry of Privatisation and ZTBL were also present, providing insights and updates on the privatization efforts.
