Karachi, During a recent visit to the Sindh Government Hospital Korangi, Governor Kamran Khan Tesori critically assessed the effectiveness of the provincial healthcare budget, stating that the allocated 95 billion rupees have failed to significantly improve treatment facilities for the populace. The Governor’s inspection included interactions with both patients and healthcare professionals to gauge the quality of services provided.
According to Sindh Governor House, Governor Tesori’s visit underscored a commitment to enhancing healthcare services within the province. He highlighted the donation of a state-of-the-art ventilator from Switzerland to the hospital and discussed the potential for further improvements through collaboration with diplomats and philanthropic support. Despite previous criticisms of the Sindh government’s efforts in various sectors, Governor Tesori acknowledged advancements within the health department.
The Governor emphasized the fundamental right of citizens to access quality healthcare, pointing out the pending approval of a health insurance summary that would entitle every provincial resident to treatment facilities worth up to one million rupees. This insurance plan, to be administered by State Life, aims to replicate successful models from other provinces, offering widespread health coverage.
Governor Tesori also addressed the challenges in realizing the full potential of the provincial healthcare budget, suggesting a reevaluation of fund allocation and management to better meet the needs of Sindh’s citizens. His visit also served as an opportunity to refute rumors regarding the initiation of IT classes, affirming that such educational programs have commenced and are contributing to the bright future of students in the region. These courses, which are aligned with market demands, are offered free of charge and are designed to foster employment and freelancing opportunities without government expenditure.
Dr. Zafar Abbas, the Medical Superintendent, briefed Governor Tesori on recent improvements, including the renovation of the emergency room, which now has a 20-patient capacity. This visit by the Sindh Governor highlights ongoing efforts to scrutinize and enhance healthcare services across the province, amidst challenges in budget utilization and the need for additional support from both the government and private sectors.
