KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah defended the province’s Rs3.652 trillion budget for 2026-27, emphasizing achievements in fiscal discipline and development projects. He announced ambitious plans for Sindh’s growth, including the development of Keti Bandar, an International Financial Centre, and a Green Energy Network.
According to Chief Minister Sindh, Shah underscored Sindh’s accomplishment of becoming wheat self-sufficient for the first time and completing nearly 100 major development projects despite fiscal challenges. The Chief Minister detailed an Annual Development Programme of Rs720 billion for the upcoming financial year, with significant allocations for Karachi. He also highlighted the successful Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees program and noted international confidence in the province’s development agenda, evidenced by World Bank-approved projects worth $1.7 billion.
In response to opposition criticism, Mr. Shah rebutted claims regarding the province’s healthcare system and federal transfers, defending Sindh’s Public-Private Partnership initiatives. He addressed historical inaccuracies and reiterated Sindh’s role in national unity and development. The Chief Minister outlined ongoing projects, including the Munawar Underpass in Karachi and energy subsidies for local communities.
Concluding his address, Mr. Shah rejected unsubstantiated allegations and emphasized Sindh’s contributions to national development, highlighting the province’s potential and ongoing efforts in public health, infrastructure, and social welfare.
