Sindh Budget Aims to Alleviate Financial Burdens for Government Employees and Poor, Emphasizes Infrastructure

Karachi, Provincial Minister of Energy Development and Planning Sindh, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, announced that the upcoming Sindh provincial budget will prioritize financial relief for government employees and the poor, as well as significant infrastructure improvements. The announcements were made during a press interaction at the Assembly today.

According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Sindh, Minister Shah detailed the budget’s focus on aligning salary increases for government employees with inflation rates, a directive that stems from party leaders Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s policies. Additionally, the budget will address essential public services, with water facilities and the provision of free electricity identified as top priorities.

Minister Shah also emphasized the People’s Party’s commitment to shielding the poor and middle class from new taxes. Instead, any necessary tax increases would target luxury goods and the privileged class to ensure economic fairness. He highlighted ongoing dialogues with the federal government to avoid taxes on solar energy, reflecting a broader effort to support sustainable energy solutions amid rising electricity costs.

Responding to concerns about regional disparities in infrastructure development, Minister Shah expressed hopes for equitable federal support, including matching grants for Sindh, which he noted were absent in the previous budget. He argued that developing Sindh’s infrastructure, particularly its transportation networks like motorways, is crucial for national prosperity.

The minister reassured that the Sindh government would continue to focus on completing existing development projects rather than introducing new ones. He also shared plans for constructing 21 lakh houses for flood victims, demonstrating the budget’s commitment to recovery and development following recent natural disasters.

Minister Shah’s remarks reflect a comprehensive approach to budgeting in Sindh, aimed at economic stabilization, equitable taxation, and enhanced public services, which he believes will contribute to both regional and national growth.
