Security Tightened in Kashmir Ahead of Prime Minister Modi’s Visit

Srinagar, In anticipation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit, authorities have significantly increased security measures across Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The region is on high alert as preparations are underway for Modi’s scheduled appearance in Jammu on February 20.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Modi’s daylong visit will include addressing a public rally at Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu city, where he will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for multiple projects virtually. Additionally, the Prime Minister plans to engage with the populace via video conferencing and distribute job letters to the youth.

Security protocols around the rally venue have been notably escalated, with the area effectively under lockdown. Vehicles in the vicinity are subjected to thorough searches, and numerous checkpoints have been established along the River Tawi bank, adjacent to the stadium. All sports activities at the stadium have been put on hold to further secure the area.

The security clampdown extends beyond Jammu into the Kashmir valley, where law enforcement officials are enforcing stringent measures to preempt any disturbances during Modi’s visit. Reports indicate an increase in patrolling along highways and strategic locations, with heightened frisking operations, particularly in the southern districts such as Kulgam. Authorities are also conducting naka checking, leading to the seizure of several vehicles and bikes.

A senior police officer underscored the comprehensive nature of these security arrangements, emphasizing the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and order throughout Modi’s visit. The measures reflect the administration’s efforts to ensure the visit proceeds without incident, amidst the complex backdrop of political and security challenges in the region.
