NEW DELHI, A new report by the Indian Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) reveals a concerning rise in road accidents and associated fatalities in India for the year 2022.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the ‘Road accidents in India–2022’ report highlights that both road accidents and resultant deaths surged by 12 per cent and 9.4 per cent respectively this year. The report states that India experienced a staggering 4.6 lakh road accidents in 2022, leading to the unfortunate loss of 1.68 lakh lives, averaging 19 deaths every hour due to 53 road accidents.
In addition to the aforementioned fatalities, the report also notes that approximately 4.43 lakh individuals were injured in these accidents over the year.
When considering state-specific data, Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of road accident deaths, closely followed by Tamil Nadu.
