Islamabad, In Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), there has been a notable increase in the confiscation of properties by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), an Indian probe agency. This action has been particularly targeted towards individuals and entities associated with the Kashmiri pro-freedom movement.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the NIA recently attached the property of a civilian, Mushtaq Ahmad, in the Chanapora area of Srinagar. This incident is part of a broader pattern of property seizures by Indian authorities, including the confiscation of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference office, which has been at the forefront of advocating for a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir dispute.
The report further indicates that authorities in IIOJK have seized numerous properties belonging to individuals and organizations aligned with the pro-freedom movement, including those affiliated with Jamaat-i-Islami. The value of these properties is said to be in the range of crores. Additionally, the Indian authorities have identified hundreds more properties for potential confiscation, an action the report describes as political vendetta by the Modi regime.
The Kashmir Media Service report also highlights the frequent destruction of Kashmiri homes during violent cordon and search operations (CASOs) conducted by Indian troops. These actions are portrayed as part of a concerted effort by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)-backed Modi regime to strip Kashmiris of their land, properties, and employment opportunities.
The report criticizes these demolitions and confiscations as part of a systematic settler colonialism campaign in the region. It states that despite the Indian government’s harsh tactics, the people of IIOJK remain committed to pursuing their cause for freedom and will continue their movement until it reaches its logical conclusion.
Lastly, the report calls upon the international community and human rights organizations to take notice of the Modi regime’s actions in IIOJK and to support efforts to resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
