R-4 Foreign Ministers Endorse Islamabad MoU Between US and Iran


Cairo: The Foreign Ministers of Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye have expressed their endorsement of the recently signed ‘Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding’ between the United States and Iran, viewing it as a constructive step towards de-escalating tensions in a conflict that has posed significant risks to regional security and stability. This development was highlighted in a joint statement following the 4th Meeting of the Regional Four (R-4) Foreign Ministers held in Cairo, Egypt.



According to Radio Pakistan, the ministers commended the efforts of regional and international actors in facilitating the understanding and stressed the importance of implementing the commitments made by the parties involved. Pakistan’s role in reaching this outcome was particularly lauded, along with the support from Qatar, which played a pivotal role in the negotiations.



The statement emphasized the importance of advancing the negotiations to achieve a lasting and verifiable solution to the remaining issues, taking into account the concerns of regional countries, particularly regarding the security of the Gulf Arab States and the Levant region.



Additionally, the ministers reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause to achieving peace and stability in the Middle East, reiterating their support for the rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of an independent state based on the 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital. They emphasized that the Palestinian issue remains essential for realizing a stable and secure regional order.



Furthermore, the ministers expressed appreciation to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for his vision of the region’s future, which serves as a guiding framework for the group’s efforts to bring stability to the Middle East.
