Punjab Police Ensures Security for ICC Champions Trophy Festival

LAHORE: The ICC Champions Trophy festival is set to commence with Punjab Police finalizing comprehensive security arrangements to ensure the safety of participants and spectators. Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, affirmed that extensive measures are in place to guarantee a secure environment for both national and international players, officials, and cricket fans.

According to a statement by Punjab Police, more than 12,000 officers and personnel will be deployed across Lahore and Rawalpindi for the tournament. The deployment includes 18 senior officers, 54 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), 135 inspectors, and 1,200 upper subordinates, alongside 10,556 constables and over 200 female officers tasked with security and monitoring roles.

In Lahore, over 8,000 officers will be on duty, comprising 12 senior officers, 39 DSPs, 86 inspectors, and 700 upper subordinates. Additionally, 6,673 constables and 129 female constables will manage security and checking operations. Meanwhile, Rawalpindi will see the deployment of more than 5,000 officers, including six senior officers, 15 DSPs, 50 inspectors, and 500 upper subordinates, supported by 4,000 constables and over 100 female personnel.

Dr. Usman Anwar highlighted ongoing security operations around key locations associated with the event, emphasizing high alert levels and traffic management strategies. The Safe City Authority will utilize cameras for monitoring stadiums, hotels, and team routes, while additional traffic wardens will be stationed to facilitate smooth traffic flow and parking.

Specialized units, including the Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit, and Elite Force, will conduct patrols, with snipers positioned on strategic rooftops. The police have advised the public to adhere to guidelines for a safe matchday experience.

Traffic advisories will be issued ahead of the matches to maintain public awareness, with three games scheduled in Lahore on February 22, 26, and March 5, and three in Rawalpindi on February 24, 25, and 27.
