Lahore, 03 Dec 2023: In a significant meeting at the Chief Minister’s Office, a 21-member delegation from the Meat Exporters Association met with Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi to discuss strategies for enhancing livestock production and meat exports. The delegation presented various suggestions aimed at boosting the sector’s growth.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the Chief Minister requested a workable plan to quintuple meat exports from the region. He took immediate steps to establish FMD (Foot-and-Mouth Disease) control measures for livestock production and ordered action against those imposing unnecessary taxes in cattle markets.
Chief Minister Naqvi expressed his commitment to providing all necessary facilities to facilitate the increase in meat exports and mentioned reaching out to the federation to aid in this effort. The anticipated rise in meat production and exports is expected to benefit local farmers significantly.
The meeting included discussions on the current status of meat exports from Pakistan and Lahore, highlighting the sector’s potential. With current exports valued at $500 million nationally and $300 million from Lahore, there is an ambitious goal to increase these figures to $5 billion. Immediate action was promised on the feasible suggestions made by the Meat Exporters Association.
The meeting was also attended by key figures including the Provincial Livestock Minister Ibrahim Hasan Murad, the Chief Secretary, Livestock Secretary Mian Abdul Hanan, President of the Meat Exporters Association, Secretary-General Syed Hasan Raza, and owners of meat production units. This engagement marks a proactive step towards expanding Punjab’s capacity in meat production and export, positioning it as a significant player in the global market.
