Islamabad Seminar Advocates for Plebiscite in Kashmir, Highlights Human Rights Concerns

Islamabad, At a recent seminar in Islamabad, Mushaal Hussein Mullick, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister on Human Rights and Women Empowerment, advocated for a plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir as per United Nations resolutions, emphasizing it as the only way forward for resolving the longstanding Kashmir issue. The event, focusing on India’s Kashmir policy and its implications, brought together various experts who discussed the need for a strong narrative against human rights violations in the region and the importance of international diplomatic engagement.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the seminar titled ‘Indian Kashmir Policy – Implications and Way Forward’ was organized by the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA). Mullick highlighted Pakistan’s role in exposing the alleged violations of human rights and international laws by India. She also expressed concerns over India’s attempts to alter the demographic composition of Jammu and Kashmir and proposed a UN-supervised census in the region.

The event featured former Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral (Retd) Muhammad Zakaullah, who described the Kashmir issue as a remnant of the 1947 partition, criticizing India’s non-compliance with its commitments to the international community regarding a plebiscite. Zakaullah, also the Chairman of NIMA’s Board of Advisors, emphasized the integral importance of Kashmir to Pakistan.

Vice Admiral (Retd) Ahmed Saeed, Director General of NIMA, in his opening remarks, pointed to the post-2019 abrogation of Articles 370 and 35-A by the Indian government, alleging systematic efforts to erase Kashmiri identity and culture.

Prominent speakers, including Dr. Adam Saud, Syed Muhammad Ali, and Ambassador (Retd) Nadeem Riyaz, focused on the development of a narrative exposing the BJP-led Hindutva ideology. They called for effective diplomatic and media strategies to engage the international community on the Kashmir issue.
