Prime Minister Sharif Reaffirms Commitment to Provincial Development

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring progress and development across all four provinces of Pakistan. Addressing the National Assembly, Sharif emphasized the right of each province to its resources and highlighted ongoing federal projects aimed at fostering regional growth.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister responded to concerns raised by Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai by underscoring Parliament’s role as a representative body for the provinces. He assured that Balochistan’s interests were being considered, specifically mentioning the province’s share in the Reko Diq project and the increased allocation from the 2010 National Finance Commission Award. Notably, 73 billion rupees were reportedly allocated for solarizing agricultural tube-wells in Balochistan, and federal funding of over 300 billion rupees is directed towards completing the Gwadar-Chaman dual carriageway.

Prime Minister Sharif also defended the construction of the fence along the Durand Line, citing security concerns, and praised the sacrifices made by security forces in combating terrorism, with particular acknowledgment of efforts in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He reiterated his willingness for dialogue to resolve ongoing issues.

Opposition Leader Achakzai initiated a discussion on the 2026-27 budget, advocating for measures to aid the impoverished and bolster the agricultural sector. He called for a comprehensive educational strategy and highlighted the potential of Pakistan’s tourism industry. Achakzai urged for cooperative efforts to advance the country while pledging the opposition’s support for constitutional sovereignty and parliamentary sanctity.
