Islamabad, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has emphasized that climate change has become a matter of national security for countries like Pakistan, which have contributed minimally to environmental degradation. The Prime Minister made these remarks while chairing a meeting in Islamabad about the upcoming COP 28 conference, scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates next month.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Prime Minister Kakar will represent Pakistan in the high-level segment of the COP28. He noted that Pakistan’s climate diplomacy is playing a constructive role in the global discourse on this critical issue. The Prime Minister highlighted the recent flooding in Pakistan, which affected one-third of the nation’s population, and commended the rehabilitation efforts of the concerned departments post-flood.
He also directed the relevant departments to prepare comprehensively to present Pakistan’s stance on climate finance and other related matters at the COP 28 conference, organized under the auspices of the United Nations. This underscores Pakistan’s commitment to addressing the global challenge of climate change, despite being one of the least contributors to global environmental degradation.
