Sanya, China: President Asif Ali Zardari met with Hainan Party Secretary Feng Fei on April 30, 2026, to discuss strengthening economic cooperation between Pakistan and Hainan. The meeting, attended by Governor Liu Xiaoming and Sanya Party Secretary Wang Qiyang, aimed at expanding trade links and fostering people-to-people exchanges.
According to Press Information Department, President Zardari expressed appreciation for Hainan’s hospitality and highlighted the province’s role as a gateway for international trade and investment. He underscored the strategic partnership between Pakistan and China, noting that the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations offers opportunities to deepen bilateral ties.
The discussions emphasized cooperation in tourism, high-tech industry, and tropical agriculture, with President Zardari advocating for increased engagement between Hainan’s enterprises and Pakistan’s industrial sectors. He also highlighted the significance of cultural exchanges, citing the participation of Pakistani athletes in the Sixth Asian Beach Games in Sanya.
President Zardari expressed interest in expanding collaboration in tropical agriculture, port development, seed technology, and fisheries, reflecting on centuries of interaction between Pakistani and Chinese civilizations. He noted his family’s historical ties with China, spanning three generations.
Party Secretary Feng Fei highlighted Hainan’s development as a Free Trade Port and its increased foreign investment since December 2025. He noted the significant rise in trade between Pakistan and Hainan and the presence of over 500 Pakistani students in Hainan’s universities. Feng emphasized Hainan’s potential for cooperation in seed technology, citing the province’s advanced research facilities.
The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to peace, stability, and cooperation. The event was attended by several Pakistani and Chinese officials, including Senator Saleem Mandviwalla and the ambassadors of both countries, followed by a banquet in honor of President Zardari.
