Islamabad: Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lt. Gen. (R) Nazir Ahmed, met with Federal Minister for Housing and Works, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, to discuss strategies for improving transparency and accountability within the Ministry of Housing and Works. The meeting took place at the Ministry’s office in Islamabad, highlighting the potential for transforming the Ministry’s assets into revenue-generating entities through modern practices.
According to Press Information Department, the Federal Minister praised NAB for its role in promoting transparency and ensuring accountability within state institutions. He noted past decisions that led to financial losses and emphasized the need for corrective actions. The Minister advocated for updating asset management practices and repurposing underutilized buildings to align with contemporary standards.
Chairman NAB proposed initiatives to optimize the Ministry’s assets for housing development nationwide, suggesting the implementation of pilot projects in the Islamabad Capital Territory. He stressed the importance of adopting international housing models and assured NAB’s support in preventing corruption and maladministration.
Federal Secretary Housing and Works, Capt. (R) Muhammad Mehmood, provided a briefing on estate properties in Karachi, highlighting issues such as legal disputes and unauthorized occupations affecting over 3,000 residential units. He called for a comprehensive policy framework supported by institutional coordination to address these challenges effectively.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to enhancing transparency, governance, and optimal use of public assets for national benefit.
