Islamabad, 10 Oct 2023:In light of the upcoming general elections, President Dr. Arif Alvi underlined the imperative for the voting process to be free, fair, transparent, and inclusive. In a discussion with Former Federal Minister and Senator, Mr. Muhammad Ali Durrani, at Aiwan-e-Sadr today, the President stressed equal participation opportunities for all political entities and their leaders to bolster democracy in Pakistan. According to a press release from the Press Information Department (PID), President Alvi further expressed that democracy loses its essence when the populace cannot freely elect their preferred leaders.

President Alvi shared that the necessity for unity amongst political, institutional, and stakeholder fronts is critical to navigate challenges across various sectors, including the economy. He emphasized the importance of setting aside bitterness in favor of cooperation and forgiveness, noting that challenging decisions require the backing and participative ownership of the people. The President viewed the imminent general elections as a pivotal opportunity to inject the necessary vibrancy to rejuvenate the nation. He also acknowledged and appreciated statements from political leaders across the board advocating for a level playing field, underlining that the crucial matter of inclusivity forms the core of democratic practice.
