New York: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and political independence. This affirmation came during a meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

According to Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s strong commitment to its historical and fraternal ties with Syria and expressed a readiness to assist in Syria’s reconstruction and economic recovery. He conveyed his good wishes to the Syrian people in their pursuit of national stabilization, cohesion, peace, and economic development.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and adherence to the principles of the UN Charter to foster peace and stability in the region. The discussions between the two leaders also focused on strengthening bilateral relations through enhanced high-level exchanges, activation of institutional mechanisms, and cooperation in trade, investment, education, and information technology, among other areas of mutual interest.

The leaders also shared views on the regional situation. Additionally, Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and called for a just and lasting resolution of the Palestine issue, in line with relevant United Nations resolutions and international law.
