London: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif made history as the first Pakistani prime minister to open the London Stock Exchange (LSE) trading session, inaugurating Pakistan’s $3 billion dual-tranche sovereign Eurobond. This milestone underscores Pakistan’s re-entry into global capital markets, reflecting renewed international investor confidence in the country’s economic path.
According to High Commission For Pakistan – United Kingdom, the prime minister addressed attendees at the LSE headquarters, emphasizing Pakistan’s potential to attract foreign investment. He highlighted the government’s efforts to strengthen macroeconomic indicators and urged closer economic collaboration between Pakistan and the UK. The prime minister also discussed privatization plans and the country’s economic resilience amid regional challenges.
The issuance, part of Pakistan’s debt-management strategy, attracted nearly $6 billion in global investor demand, marking a significant achievement under Pakistan’s Global Medium-Term Note Programme. The prime minister’s visit was attended by notable figures including LSE Group CEO David Schwimmer, Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and other officials.
