Islamabad, 03 Dec 2023: In a recent interview with Sky News Arabia, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar of Pakistan highlighted the country’s role as a strong advocate for climate finance for developing nations and addressed key regional issues including Israeli aggression and the Kashmir dispute.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Prime Minister Kakar emphasized Pakistan’s proactive stance in advocating for the Loss and Damage Fund, first proposed at COP27. He welcomed the operationalization of the fund, marked by the UAE’s announcement of a $30 billion contribution, as a positive step towards assisting developing countries with climate mitigation and risk reduction.
Addressing the issue of Israeli aggression, the Prime Minister called for an immediate halt to the violence, warning of its potential to destabilize the region. He stressed the importance of creating a humanitarian corridor to alleviate the situation.
On the topic of Palestinian statehood, Kakar reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. He also discussed the repatriation process of Afghan nationals, noting Pakistan’s long history of hosting Afghan refugees and the need to regulate movement through proper documentation.
Regarding Pakistan-India relations, the Prime Minister reiterated the unresolved issue of Kashmir, underscoring the need to address it in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions. This statement reflects Pakistan’s continued commitment to seeking a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir dispute.
