Pakistan Urges UN for Renewed Focus on International Law in Palestine and IIOJK

New York: Pakistan has called for a renewed commitment to international law, emphasizing unhindered humanitarian access and accountability, particularly in Palestine and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to Radio Pakistan, the call came from Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, during a UN Security Council open debate on the protection of civilians in armed conflict. Ambassador Ahmad highlighted the severe humanitarian needs in Palestine, advocating for safe and rapid humanitarian access, accountability for any violations, and the realization of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and statehood.

Regarding the situation in IIOJK, Ambassador Ahmad pointed out that the dispute has persisted on the Security Council’s agenda for over seven decades, with civilians suffering due to foreign occupation, including militarization, arbitrary detentions, restrictions on fundamental freedoms, demographic changes, and a denial of their right to self-determination.

He emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to supporting efforts in upholding international law, ensuring accountability, and promoting peaceful dispute settlements, stressing the importance of civilian protection as central to the United Nations’ mission.
