Islamabad: Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to collaborate with all United Nations member states to uphold the principles of the UN Charter, focusing on preventing war, promoting peace, fostering global prosperity, and ensuring universal respect for human rights. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar delivered these remarks at a reception for Islamabad-based envoys, marking the start of Pakistan’s term as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2025-2026.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Deputy Prime Minister Dar emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to pursuing just and peaceful resolutions for ongoing global disputes. He highlighted unresolved issues like Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine as persistent concerns and pointed to the situation in Gaza as a crisis challenging the credibility of the UN Security Council.
Dar outlined Pakistan’s priorities on the Security Council, stating that the country’s efforts are rooted in the UN Charter’s fundamental principles. He emphasized the need for the Security Council’s decisions to reflect the collective aspirations of all member states and expressed Pakistan’s intention to play a constructive role in bridging divides, fostering consensus, and upholding the Council’s mandate.
The Deputy Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to the UN member states for electing Pakistan to the Security Council with overwhelming support. He remarked that this election is recognition of Pakistan’s contributions to global peace and security and a trust that Pakistan intends to honor by working closely with the member states.
