Pakistan Showcases Environmental Initiatives at COP28 in Dubai

Islamabad, 03 Dec 2023: At the COP28 climate conference in Dubai, Pakistan has unveiled two significant initiatives at its pavilion – the Living Indus Initiative and Recharge Pakistan – both of which are grounded in nature-based solutions for environmental challenges.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Living Indus Initiative, committing an estimated 11-17 billion dollars over 5 to 15 years, aims to restore the Indus River basin, focusing on the long-term health of the ecosystem. This ambitious project underscores Pakistan’s commitment to leveraging natural resources for sustainable environmental management.

Parallelly, the Recharge Pakistan Project, valued at 78 million dollars, is dedicated to ecosystem-based adaptation efforts in Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It emphasizes cost-effective and nature-oriented solutions to adapt to climate change.

Throughout COP28, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination is conducting 28 activities, including crucial bilateral meetings, to address key environmental issues. These initiatives and activities highlight Pakistan’s proactive role in combating climate change and its dedication to sustainable environmental practices.
