Pakistan Secures Second LNG Cargo from Azerbaijan’s SOCAR


Islamabad, The Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) and Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) have announced the procurement of a second LNG cargo from the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), scheduled for delivery in February 2024. This acquisition falls under the Government-to-Government Framework Agreement between PLL and SOCAR, reinforcing the energy partnership between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.



According to Press Information Department, the Framework Agreement signed in July 2023 between PLL and SOCAR, represents a significant development in bilateral energy cooperation. Under this agreement, SOCAR may offer one LNG cargo per month to PLL, with PLL’s acceptance based on Pakistan’s LNG demand and commercial considerations. This arrangement aims to ensure a consistent and reliable supply of LNG to meet Pakistan’s increasing energy requirements.



The delivery of the first cargo under this agreement in December 2023 marked the beginning of a mutually beneficial partnership between PLL and SOCAR. The procurement of the second LNG cargo underlines the commitment of both parties to adhere to the terms of the Framework Agreement. It also highlights the critical role of reliable energy supplies for Pakistan, especially during the winter months.
