Islamabad: Pakistan has been credited with playing a significant role in mediating a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, reflecting its commitment to regional stability through dialogue and diplomacy. The efforts have been led by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, alongside Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, with ongoing diplomatic engagements across the region.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan’s initiatives have been acknowledged by global leaders, with calls from the Austrian Chancellor, the Amir of Qatar, and the Prime Ministers of Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Canada, all expressing support for Pakistan’s constructive role in facilitating negotiations. The peace talks held in Islamabad on April 11-12 saw U.S. and Iranian delegations engage in extensive negotiations, mediated by Pakistan’s leadership.
Prime Minister Sharif is currently visiting Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Türkiye to further bilateral relations and participate in the Antalya Diplomacy Forum. Meanwhile, the Chief of Defence Staff and Chief of Army Staff have visited Tehran, reinforcing Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts. The Ministry emphasized that Pakistan will continue its facilitatory role in promoting dialogue and cooperation between the U.S. and Iran.
