Islamabad: Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to the global zero-waste movement, highlighting the importance of sustainable waste management practices and international collaboration.
Addressing the General Assembly Hall during the International Day of Zero Waste, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative-designate to the UN, emphasized the country’s dedication to supporting this initiative despite numerous challenges.
Ambassador Ahmad underscored the need for enhanced multilateral cooperation, advocating for special and differential treatment for developing countries. He highlighted the importance of capacity-building, technology transfer, and financial support to aid these nations in achieving sustainable waste management.
Pakistan is actively working to support the zero-waste movement through various national policies and initiatives, Ambassador Ahmad noted. The country’s efforts are part of a broader strategy to address the escalating waste crisis on a global scale.
