New York: Pakistan has called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to create a structured follow-up process to ensure the implementation of its resolutions. This call was made by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, during an open debate on mechanisms for peaceful dispute resolution.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Ahmad emphasized the need for the Council to receive regular assessments, identify obstacles, and encourage the use of peaceful means when disputes remain unresolved or resolutions are not implemented. He outlined the importance of direct communication, restraint, and confidence-building measures, such as hotlines and de-confliction arrangements.

The Ambassador highlighted the necessity of systematic cooperation between the UN and regional organizations, citing the UN’s Charter-based legitimacy and technical capacity. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with numerous UNSC resolutions.

Additionally, Ambassador Ahmad pointed to Pakistan’s mediating role between Iran and the United States, referencing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding as an example of successful diplomacy that facilitated dialogue and saved lives.
