Anjuman Auqaf Criticizes Closure of Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid for Key Religious Events

Srinagar: The Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid has voiced strong opposition to the restrictions enforced by Indian authorities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, which led to the closure of the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar during two important Muslim observances, Shab-e-Qadr and Jumat-ul-Wida.

In a statement released via Kashmir Media Service, the Anjuman expressed regret over what it described as an unjustified act, noting the significance of the Jamia Masjid as the largest place of worship for Muslims in the region. The closure of the mosque during these significant religious gatherings has been met with widespread disapproval.

The statement also highlighted the house arrest of senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who was prevented from leading prayers and addressing congregants. The Anjuman condemned this action, emphasizing that the community perceives such measures as an infringement on religious freedoms.

The Anjuman Auqaf underscored that individuals across various societal sectors are protesting the decision, which they see as an undemocratic approach that is unacceptable to the community. The situation continues to draw attention to the broader issues of religious freedom and expression in the region.
