Islamabad: On the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Pakistan has reiterated its dedication to combating the challenges posed by drug abuse and trafficking. This commitment aligns with the global observance of the day, which highlights the significant human, economic, and social costs associated with drugs.
According to Press Information Department, the theme for this year’s observance, “World drug problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative responses,” underscores the evolving nature of the drug problem worldwide. Pakistan is focusing on addressing threats from narcotic drugs, including new substances and illicit networks, with a particular emphasis on protecting youth.
The government is enhancing national and international efforts to dismantle drug networks. Initiatives include strengthening institutional cooperation and expanding partnerships with international entities. The Anti-Narcotics Force is central to these efforts, implementing measures for prevention, public awareness, and the rehabilitation of affected individuals.
The government is also prioritizing drug-free educational institutions and collaborating with provincial authorities on prevention and awareness programs. Pakistan is working to bolster its counter-narcotics institutions and deepen international partnerships, including intelligence sharing and joint operations, to combat trafficking networks.
The Prime Minister emphasized the role of parents, educators, and community leaders in promoting awareness and prevention efforts, highlighting the shared responsibility in fostering a healthy society.
