ISLAMABAD, Today, a high-level delegation from the Danish Parliament’s NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NPA) met with the Pak-Denmark Parliamentary Friendship Group. The meeting took place at the International Parliamentarians Congress Secretariat (IPC), with Senator Nuzhat Sadiq leading the Pak-Denmark group and Mr. Mads Fuglege representing the Danish delegation.

According to Senate of Pakistan, the structure, functions, and working of the IPC were elaborated upon by the Secretary General of the International Parliamentarians Congress, Sitara Ayaz, along with her team. Senator Nuzhat Sadiq and Secretary General Sitara Ayaz addressed the delegation, expressing their condemnation of the Israeli ground operations in the Palestinian Gaza. Both highlighted the critical role parliaments can play in resolving conflicts and wars.

Gratitude was extended to the Danish Parliament for their support during Pakistan’s 2022 floods by Senator Nuzhat Sadiq. She emphasized the growing concern of global climate change calamities leading to severe natural disasters worldwide and stressed the importance of global parliamentary collaboration on this front. The Danish delegation acknowledged the significance of joint discussions on the challenges posed by climate change, specifically focusing on the transition to renewable energy as fossil fuel consumption begins to decline.

Senator Seemee Ezdi, chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change, underscored the imminent decline in consumption of major fossil fuels due to the rapid expansion of renewable energy and electric vehicles. She emphasized the need for proactive measures to prevent a potential global energy crisis.

Trade potential and strategies to enhance agricultural development between Pakistan and Denmark were also explored. The Danish delegation, during their inaugural visit to Pakistan, assured their commitment to continued parliamentary interactions and expressed a keen interest in understanding the challenges Pakistan faces.

The gathering saw participation from Senator Seemee Ezdi, former Senator Sitara Imtiaz, the Secretary General of the International Parliamentarian Congress, and other senior IPC members. Concluding the meeting, the Danish representatives expressed gratitude for the hospitality and recorded their remarks in the IPC guest book.
