ISLAMABAD, A delegation from the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, representing the Danish Parliament, led by Mr. Mads Fuglege, met with Deputy Chairman Senate, Mirza Muhammad Afridi at Parliament House today. The meeting covered a broad range of topics, including strengthening bilateral relations, addressing mutual concerns, and deepening economic cooperation with the EU.
According to Senate of Pakistan, the discussions were thorough, touching on areas like trade and the potential for bolstered economic links to benefit both nations. Deputy Chairman Afridi highlighted the potential for Pakistan to benefit from Denmark’s proficiency in sectors like Agriculture and Renewable Energy. The Danish representatives agreed, expressing a keen interest in aiding Pakistan in these domains.
Mirza Muhammad Afridi emphasized the importance of fortifying parliamentary ties between the two countries, rooted in shared democratic values and good governance practices.
A significant portion of the dialogue was dedicated to the topic of Islamophobia. Afridi conveyed concerns from the Muslim community about increasing instances of Islamophobia in the West. He stressed the need for mutual respect for sacred beliefs and the propagation of interfaith harmony. Recognizing the Danish Parliament’s initiatives to tackle Islamophobia, the Deputy Chairman expressed hope for the successful implementation of related legislation.
The situation in Palestine also figured prominently in the discussions. Afridi highlighted the urgency to address Israeli actions in the Gaza Strip and advocated for a solution to the Palestinian issue consistent with United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Also present in the meeting were Senators Hafiz Abdul Karim, Kesho Bai, Abida Muhammad Azeem, Gurdeep Singh, Peer Syed Sabir Shah, Muhammad Qasim, and Secretary Senate Mohammad Qasim Samad Khan.
