Islamabad: Pakistan today observes the 66th anniversary of the martyrdom of Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed, a distinguished military hero and the second recipient of the Nishan-e-Haider, the nation’s highest military honor. Major Tufail’s heroic actions in 1958, which led to his death, continue to be a source of national pride and are commemorated with various tributes across the country.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Pakistan Armed Forces, alongside the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the Services Chiefs, have expressed deep reverence and paid solemn tributes to Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed. Events including Quran Khawani and special prayers were held in mosques nationwide to honor his valor and sacrifice.
Born on July 22, 1914, in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, Major Tufail was posthumously awarded the Nishan-e-Haider for his bravery in the Lakshmipur sector of what was then East Pakistan. Despite sustaining fatal injuries, he completed his mission against Indian forces, demonstrating extraordinary bravery and dedication to duty.
The day’s observances also included statements from religious scholars who praised the sacrifices made by Major Tufail and other martyrs for the homeland. These leaders emphasized that those who have sacrificed their lives for the country’s dignity are forever deserving of respect and honor.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) also released a statement underscoring the lasting legacy of Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed, stating, “We honor the memory of these gallant sons of the soil who made the ultimate sacrifice to safeguard our nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
