ISLAMABAD: The National Emergency Response Committee has called for strengthened coordination and timely preventive measures to mitigate the impact of adverse weather events as the monsoon season progresses.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Committee convened at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Headquarters in Islamabad under the leadership of Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal. The meeting reviewed the evolving monsoon conditions and assessed ongoing response efforts nationwide.

The session included a detailed briefing on the current monsoon situation, covering weather forecasts, human and material losses, and the ongoing rescue, relief, and rehabilitation operations. The Committee stressed the importance of robust inter-agency communication and effective implementation of response strategies.

Deputy Commissioners in districts likely to be affected by heavy rainfall have already been alerted to ensure preparedness and prompt action. The majority of fatalities this season have been linked to the collapse of vulnerable structures, underscoring the need for public awareness and the enforcement of safe construction practices.

The Committee expressed appreciation for the coordinated efforts of federal ministries, provincial governments, district administrations, the armed forces, and rescue services in supporting affected communities.
