Islamabad: The Emergency Response Committee convened its 10th session at the National Emergencies Operation Centre, NDMA Headquarters, to examine the evolving monsoon situation and the ongoing response efforts nationwide. The meeting was conducted via video link by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal. It included representatives from relevant Federal Ministries, Provincial Governments, Chief Secretaries, Provincial Disaster Management Authorities, and other response agencies.
According to Press Information Department, the session featured a comprehensive briefing from Chairman NDMA and the NEOC team on the current monsoon scenario. This included updates on the weather outlook, human and material losses, ongoing rescue, relief, and rehabilitation operations, and the overall national response. The Committee was informed that Deputy Commissioners in potentially affected districts are already on alert regarding forecast rainfall and associated risks to ensure timely preparedness and response at the district level.
The Committee received further updates on the flood situation from recent rainfall and the coordinated response by Federal, Provincial, and District authorities. NEOC noted that rainfall is expected to persist over northern and central parts of the country, with isolated rainfall likely over southeastern Sindh.
NDMA highlighted the relief activities underway in affected areas, supported by national and international humanitarian organizations. It was noted that most fatalities during the current monsoon season resulted from the collapse of vulnerable structures, emphasizing the necessity for public awareness and the enforcement of safe construction practices.
The Emergency Response Committee acknowledged the efforts of Federal Ministries, Provincial Governments, District Administrations, Armed Forces, rescue services, and other agencies in their coordinated response to assist affected communities. The Committee directed stakeholders to enhance inter-agency coordination, maintain high preparedness levels, expedite relief and rehabilitation efforts, and ensure the implementation of preventive measures to mitigate the impact of future weather events.
