Pakistan and Spain Explore Enhanced Agricultural and Trade Collaboration


Islamabad: In a recent high-level meeting, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, and the Spanish Ambassador to Pakistan, Carlos Aragón Gil de la Serna, discussed strategies for bolstering cooperation in agriculture, food security, trade, and broader multilateral engagements between the two nations.



According to Press Information Department, the meeting underscored the mutual commitment of both countries to deepen collaboration in the agricultural sector and explore new opportunities for trade and investment. The discussions took place in a positive atmosphere, reflecting the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Spain.



The Spanish Ambassador extended congratulations to Pakistan on its full membership in the International Olive Council (IOC), recognizing the nation’s growing influence in the global olive industry. Minister Hussain expressed gratitude for Spain’s steadfast support in Pakistan’s IOC membership bid, highlighting it as a testament to the robust partnership between the countries.



Acknowledging the contribution of the Pakistani diaspora in Spain, the Ambassador noted their role in enhancing economic ties and promoting trade. With a favorable trade balance, textiles stand out as a major export from Pakistan to Spain.



Minister Hussain emphasized the potential for collaboration in modern agricultural technologies, inviting Spanish entities to engage in technology transfer, research partnerships, and capacity-building initiatives. He noted that such cooperation could lead to advancements in Pakistan’s agricultural productivity, water conservation, and overall food security.



To further institutionalize this bilateral engagement, Minister Hussain proposed the creation of a Pakistan-Spain Joint Working Group on Agriculture. The Spanish side welcomed this initiative, agreeing to explore its establishment to facilitate cooperation in research, technology, investment, and trade.



The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their dedication to strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing agricultural cooperation, expanding trade, and collaborating in regional and international forums for shared benefits.
