Islamabad: Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, chaired a high-level meeting with the Minister of Agriculture Jihad of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh, focused on strengthening agricultural collaboration and trade facilitation between the two countries.
According to Press Information Department, the meeting aimed at deepening economic ties, specifically in agriculture, livestock, and food security, translating existing agreements into actionable outcomes. Both countries reiterated their commitment to enhancing trade, with Iran expressing interest in importing Pakistani rice, mangoes, and meat to satisfy domestic demand.
Rana Tanveer Hussain highlighted Pakistan’s potential in agricultural production and capability to supply high-quality products to Iran. The Iranian Minister emphasized Iran’s intention to import meat from Pakistan, noting Pakistan could fulfill 60 percent of Iran’s meat import needs. He stressed the importance of efficient trade mechanisms to ensure continuous supply.
Both ministers reviewed progress on previous engagements, agreeing to implement joint communiqué commitments within two months. They instructed authorities to expedite procedures and address trade bottlenecks. The Iranian Minister appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace and stability, thanking Pakistan for aiding regional cooperation efforts.
The status of the Pakistan-Iran Joint Working Committee on Agriculture was also reviewed. The Iranian Minister emphasized the need for the committee’s activation to meet agreed targets and proposed regular meetings for effective coordination between technical experts and institutions.
Rana Tanveer Hussain underlined the significance of enhanced agricultural cooperation for regional food security, investment growth, technology transfer, and economic development. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to facilitating bilateral trade and strengthening institutional linkages in agriculture and livestock.
The ministers expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory of Pakistan-Iran relations and agreed to maintain close cooperation to maximize agricultural trade potential, encourage private-sector involvement, and improve connectivity between the nations.
