Pakistan Acknowledges Contributions of Women in Foreign Service on International Day of Women in Diplomacy


Islamabad: On the International Day of Women in Diplomacy, the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan acknowledged the significant contributions of women diplomats in advancing international dialogue, understanding, and cooperation. The President highlighted their role in strengthening Pakistan’s global engagement and supporting peaceful dispute resolution.



According to Press Information Department, Pakistan has a historical record of women’s involvement in diplomacy and public service. Notable figures like Begum Ra’ana Liaquat Ali Khan and Begum Shaista Ikramullah played crucial roles in representing Pakistan on international platforms, including the United Nations. Over the years, Pakistani women have held senior positions in the foreign service, facilitating bilateral relations and participating in multilateral institutions.



The President emphasized that women diplomats have been instrumental in advancing Pakistan’s interests during periods of geopolitical tension and armed conflict. Their contributions are evident in various diplomatic areas, including negotiations related to climate change, security risks, and technological advancements. The President reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring equal opportunities for women in public service, as guaranteed by the Constitution, and recognized their increasing presence in diplomatic missions and international organizations.



Recent diplomatic achievements, such as Pakistan’s facilitation of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, underscore the importance of sustained engagement and diplomacy. Pakistani women diplomats have been integral to these efforts, contributing to Pakistan’s role in multilateral forums like the United Nations. The President expressed appreciation for all Pakistani women diplomats, affirming their vital role in enhancing the country’s diplomatic stature and ongoing efforts to engage with the world.
