Pakistan and Iran Advance Economic Ties with Focus on Border Special Economic Zone


Islamabad: Federal Minister for Investment Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh and Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam engaged in a detailed meeting to enhance economic cooperation and operationalize the Rimdan-Gabd Border Special Economic Zone (SEZ), aiming to reinforce bilateral trade and regional connectivity.



According to Press Information Department, the meeting focused on implementing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Pakistan and Iran for establishing Joint Free/Special Economic Zones along their shared border. This initiative is part of a broader framework to boost bilateral trade, with a target set at USD 10 billion in the coming years. Discussions highlighted the strategic importance of the Rimdan-Gabd area and addressed logistical challenges, such as the release of Iranian containers at Karachi Port. Both sides expressed commitment to enhancing cross-border trade and regional connectivity, including potential access to Central Asian markets. The meeting concluded with an agreement to undertake joint technical visits and convene inter-ministerial meetings to resolve outstanding issues and accelerate implementation.
